Weatherford High School’s head baseball coach, Terry Massey, is sliding into retirement at the end of this semester after 31 years of teaching and coaching students.
Coach Massey decided in high school that he’d like to be a coach. He said that’s all he’s ever wanted to do.
“I’ve been involved in athletics since I was 3, and when I found out I wouldn’t be drafted into Major League Baseball, I thought coaching was the next best thing,” said Massey.
Following high school, Coach Massey graduated from Cameron University and has worked in two school districts: White Settlement ISD and Weatherford ISD.
Ben Davis was the first director that hired Massey and taught him the “in’s and out’s”.
“We’re still friends today,” Massey said.
The coaching profession is a huge time commitment, but it’s been a great fit for Massey.
“It’s a great profession. If you love athletics it’s not like a job. You want to be there every day,” Massey said.
Over 31 years, Coach Massey has been able to positively impact thousands of athletes and students in north Texas.
“I would like to be remembered as a hard-working person that worked to give every one of my players and students the opportunity to be successful,” Massey said.
We have no doubt, Coach Massey, that IS how you will be remembered on the field and in the classrooms of Weatherford High. As you slide into retirement, we hope that you know how much you are loved and appreciated.
See you in the concession stand.
