On October 5th, the Weatherford Band traveled to Burlison for their first marching competition of the season. Along with the Belles and Color Guard, the band came home with 2nd place title, falling to North Crowley by 1/6 of a point.
The band, composed of both concert and symphonic groups, marched against other 5A schools for a spot on finals. Although the band was scheduled to march at 7pm, there was a 90-minute rain delay. Nevertheless, multiple judges commended the group for their aesthetic manner and smooth pitch.
“We are going to clean up the drill a lot this week and work on improving our sound even more,” Senior Dauphine Sizer said. “I think we have a shot at finals for our next competitions, considering how hard we have been working.”
And hard work indeed. Since late this summer, the band can be found on the Western front parking lot practicing their show; members are expected to stay until 8pm every day and willingly march out in scolding sun or wintry weather.
The next competition is Saturday the 19th at Burlison again. The band is scheduled to perform at 11:45 am and both students and faculty are encouraged to show their support for a group that has devoted countless hours to perfection their show.
