This Saturday, the Kangaroo Band is set to kick off its annual marching contest season. For the next four weeks, the almost 200-member band will travel around the district competing against all other 5A school bands in the area. Beginning on October 5th, the band will travel to Burleson; from there, Aledo, Burleson, and Duncanville are set to host competitions.
“For the first two and last contests we’re competing against other schools to get into finals,” band director Mr. Buckner said. “ For our third contest, UIL, we’re competing for sweepstakes.”
To become finalists, the band has to rank higher than the other competing 5A school bands. To make sweepstakes, the band has to make straight one divisions for their marching. For at least the last six years, the band has come home with straight one divisions and sweepstakes.
