William Merrit finished off the evening with countless tackles for loss, and sacks.
All in all the game was tremendously successful.
However the game isn’t just the statistics. Quarterback Cutter Kennedy said, “every decision that you make can outcome the game either successfully or non-successfully.” Kennedy also talked about how as a quarterback, there is an abundance of weight on his shoulders throughout the game and especially throughout the season as it continues.
Quimby stated, “the offense relies on you throughout most of the game, and how especially if you make a mistake or if you make a ‘highlight reel play’ it can weigh the game in successful or difficult ways.” Quimby also talked about how there is definitely not as much pressure as quarterback but it is 100% up there. He described how they have to be a leader on the field, directing the offense so they can help others score- whether that’s with tremendous blocking or even knocking someone on the ground so the run can get more yardage- all of the positions on the offense must work together or it won’t function properly.
Defensive player Quinton Martinez commented on blocking the point after one of Azle’s touchdown attempts saying, “I didn’t even realize that I blocked it at first, and I especially did not realize at the time that it would end up being a key aspect to our win!” Martinez felt that the pressure is not as high someone on the offense, such as quarterback, runningback or wide receiver. Martinez stated how specifically his position on the defense definitely has pressure, and an abundance of it.
Defensive Player William Merrit stated, “Senior Night felt good to win.” He also said since it is the first win of the season, the team just need to keep stacking great wins onto great wins. Merrit feels as though since it is his senior year, he has more pride for and more leadership across the entire defense and team. Merrit stated how there is an abundance of pressure on the position he plays, especially how everyone lower than him is looking up to him. He essentially has to be able to show up and show out if the team and coaches are counting on him for a play, and has to be able to show that accountability for his teammates and coaches throughout the game, and throughout the season as a whole.
Varsity Football is not an easy task, it takes tremendous amounts of effort, dedication, persistence and perseverance. It is difficult to work through the sweat, blood and tears while attempting to go win a championship.
