All freshmen have fears when they enter high school.
For Laura Lewis, her fear was not being good enough to fit the traditional beauty standards.
“My biggest fear was people being judgemental,” Lewis said. “That I would be made fun of.”
Senior Alexis Webber said you shouldn’t be worried or scared of how high school will go. You need not stress about being “perfect” or “meeting the standards.” Although it’s hard, it does not matter. Just get through it.
“You do not have to worry about meeting a standard or being ‘perfect’ because no matter what happens in life, you will get through it,” Webber said. “It is difficult to stay yourself, and it will be difficult not to feel like you need to fit into the standards and expectations of the ‘popular groups’ in high school.”
School won’t ever be like a Hollywood movie (no matter how hard you try.) In other words, there is no reason to stress as much as some students do.
But stress is what students do.
Myles Davidson’s fears are getting lost, and he does not know where his classes would be because of how “complex” the school is.
“My biggest fear about high school is how complex the school is and not being able to find all my classes,” Myles said. “I fear that I will get lost and be late to my classes.”
Senior Mason Walker introduces the fact that it’s just high school. It is not ever “that deep,” and you are going to pass, you are going to graduate, so all in all, it is never that deep or complicated.
“The best advice that I could give to a freshman is that high school is never that deep, you are going to pass, you are going to graduate,” Mason said. “Never have too much stress to get through high school. Just take it brisk and light and enjoy hanging out with your friends. Enjoy the time you spend in high school and during this time in your life. At the end of the day, you will look back at this experience and say to yourself: “it was fun.”
Fears about high school? Life is not deep enough to have fears about school. Especially high school. The perspective of having a “good high school experience” is too cliche. Do not worry about being late or tardy to your classes because, in the long game, it won’t end.
Myles Davidson says that sports in high school are not that hard to perform. Yes, they are challenging, and you may not do ‘exceptional’; however, it is not that difficult.
“You will realize that you can still have fun if you aren’t doing great at the sport,” Davidson said. “Do not let the struggles in sports or life weigh you down. Instead, allow yourself to let the happiness and strengths in sports and life bring you up, and also allow yourself to know that you can do it. You will get through it.
Senior Zaydyn Harmon: “Freshman shouldn’t have to worry or fear over sports because as long as you perform at your very best, there isn’t really much that can bring you down in sports.” Harmon said. “Do not worry about not living up to someone else’s ‘potential’. Everyone has different expectations and perspectives on how you should live your life in sports and how you play the sports. You do not need to think, “I need to live by someone else’s style or standards when it comes to playing sports, like football, track, etc. All in all, don’t worry about how high school will go. All you have to do is worry about how you can live your experience. You can’t control everything and everyone around you, but you can change how you respond to what everyone says about you and your life.”
