Weatherford ISD is proud to announce the hiring of Michael Swenson as the new Assistant Athletic Director. With two decades of coaching and education experience, Swenson brings a wealth of leadership, a winning mentality, and a deep commitment to student athletes.
Swenson joins Weatherford ISD after a 20-year career at Iowa Park where he served most recently as Athletic Director and Head Football Coach. His extensive coaching background includes seven years as a Defensive Coordinator, 15 years as a Head Baseball Coach with 14 playoff appearances, and a steadfast dedication to multi-sport athlete development.
“We are excited to welcome Michael to the Weatherford athletics team,” said Dr. Beau Rees, Superintendent. “His passion for student success—both on and off the field—aligns perfectly with our vision for Weatherford ISD athletics. His experience and leadership will be instrumental in furthering our commitment to excellence.”
Swenson is eager to step into his new role and contribute to the growth of Kangaroo athletics.
“I have seen firsthand the difference a coach and educator can make in a student’s life,” said Swenson. “Kids need us, and I love being there to help them learn to fight through adversity and become winners—not just in sports, but in life. I believe in multi-sport participation and in helping student-athletes develop the skills to compete, work as a team, and represent their school and community with pride. I’m excited to be part of the Weatherford family and look forward to working with our athletes and coaches.”
