The front entrance doors open to students at 7:45 a.m.
As students pile in, there’s a new face holding the doors open.
It’s Amy Brown.
All the unfamiliar faces smile at an unfamiliar face. Brown, who has 20 years in education, is the new assistant principal at WHS, replacing Lisa Deavers, who left at the end of last year to become principal at Millsap High School.
Brown, who used to live in Hudson Oaks, isn’t unfamiliar with Weatherford. She agrees that Weatherford has the best school system she has worked at, but there are better places she has lived.
She does agree that it has been a change for the better.
Brown has experienced many changes over the years. She attended Springtown High School and college in Austin. She taught various Social Studies and Leadership courses at South Hills High School in Fort Worth for nine years. During that time, she started the cheerleading program and dance team and became a member of the campus culture turnaround initiative, Homecoming Committee, Prom Committee, and Principal’s Advisory Committee.
After receiving her Master’s in Education in Teacher Leadership, she attended Crowley High School for three years and headed up the Attendance Restoration program. She also participated in their Aspiring Principals Program and taught Social Studies.
For the last seven years, she has been at Diamond Hill-Jarvis High School, where she served as an Advanced Academic/CCMR/Programs of Choice/CTE/Campus Testing Coordinator.
Even though Brown landed a job as assistant principal, she didn’t always want to work with kids. Her dream job and career path was to be president of the United States. She went to school, tried to be a politician, and realized how hard of a job it was. That’s when she decided to try out working with kids.
“I am very much a team player who likes to help where I can make everyone, students and staff, successful and enjoy coming to school,” she said.
