There has been a dynamic shift in Weatherford Lady Roo Volleyball,
Courtney Hammet was appointed on June 11 as the new head volleyball coach, bringing a wealth of experience and a fresh perspective to the team.
Hammet joins WHS with an impressive coaching background, having led Godly HS to the top three in North Texas’ Class 4-A District for four consecutive years — her entire tenure there.
Her primary goal at Weatherford is to “instill confidence back into the program” and foster a sense of unity, emphasizing the importance of confederation, or in her words, “playing as one rather than six individuals.”
This statement connects her career back to how much she values the players she coaches.
“Coaches that do it right, the relationships they have with their kids outlast high school,” Hammet said. “It’s a lifetime relationship with those kids. So, if I have that, I feel like I’ve won.”
Players are excited for the change, saying that Hammet’s competitive spirit encourages them to reach their full potential as a team.
“I’m happy she’s here because she knows what she’s doing and what she wants,” Sophomore Ally Gilbert said. “She pushes all of the teams to give their all and not to give up.”
With a proven track record and determination to work through every team challenge, Hammet’s goal is to lead the Lady Roo Volleyball program to success this season.
Her goal? Make it to “postseason playoffs” and produce “confident players” by the end of the year.
