• How are you involved at school?
Hi, I’m Emma! I am the Student Director for the Acapella and Kanga choirs, a previous All-State Mixed Choir member, and also will be performing in the winter musical, Shrek, as Gingy. Additionally, I am a Roo crew member and one of our Rally girls, running the pep rallies. I also am involved in many academic organizations, being NHS, NEHS, competing in UIL Academics, and am in the top 25 of my class!
• What advice do you have for an incoming 9th or 10th grader?
The best advice I have for incoming grade levels is to continue to go outside of your comfort zone and do the things you’re afraid to do. Many things in high school and life can seem impossible to achieve, but you never know until you try!
• What does Roo Nation mean to you?
Roo Nation has been a home for me and many others. It is a place where I have met many of the people I am so grateful to have in my life, people I would have never met if I had never become a part of this community. I can always trust that others will have my back, just as I will have theirs. Roo Nation is a community like none other, filled with trust, kindness, and spirit.
• What has been your favorite memory while at WHS?
Though I cherish an innumerable amount of memories made at WHS, my favorite memory is of my first ever musical, Grease, on our closing show. It was the final, big number of the show and my heel had come off of my foot, yet still attached to my ankle!! So, I finished the song with this bright red heel flopping around my ankle, which was terrifying at the time, but a great laugh now.
• What are you looking forward to this year?
This year, I look forward to getting involved in many things and having fun with my friends and teachers so that I can fully appreciate my last year in high school.
• Who or what is your biggest inspiration?
My biggest inspiration is Mrs. Weaver because she has continuously pushed me to work harder and strive for bigger and better goals, helping me to succeed where I never could have before. I have had her as my Choir Director since 6th Grade, yet I continue to learn more from her, and she is the reason for my love of music and my continued pursuit of it as a career. She has an admirable knowledge of music, and without her I would not be the person I am today.
• What are your plans after graduation?
After graduation, I plan to study Vocal Performance and Conducting, and eventually get a Doctorate in Choral Conducting to hopefully become a professor. I hope to attend the Butler School of Music at UT Austin, but I am open to any university.
