How are you involved in school?
I am in both a capella choir and Kanga Singers, I do production theater, I’m in this year’s production ‘Hadestown’, I’m a rally kid, I am on the announcement team, and UIL Academics.
What advice do you have for upcoming 9th and 10th grade students?
My advice to upcoming 9th and 10th grade students is to focus on what you love and it’s important to remember it’s okay to make sacrifices for things to spare yourself time to be able to do the things you want to do, as well the things you know you need to do that are going to benefit you in the long run.
What does Roo Nation mean to you?
To me, Roo Nation means kind of like a neighborhood, as you go through your years of high school it’s confusing at first because there is so many different people and teachers, but eventually as you get to your senior year you know so many teachers you have so many connections, it’s just like one big community. One second you don’t know anyone and the next you’re having a conversation with the principal, or one of your favorite teachers.
What would you tell people before joining Choir?
I would tell people that it is rigorous and it’s not as easy as it seems to be, reading music is like learning a second language in a way. But not only learning music, the importance of choir it’s a community aspect and it’s meant to bring multiple voices together and having to learn to blend and cooperate. Overall, it’s a good experience and you learn a lot of things.
What has been your favorite memory while being in Choir?
My favorite memory while being in choir is, last year I was friends with this girl, and we both really liked this artist, and we sat at the piano and she played the notes to ‘Summers end’, and we sung along together. Now she’s graduated but she’s very dear to my heart.
What are you looking forward to this year?
I am looking forward to finding a school to go too and making good memories with my last year in choir, and many more good conversations with my favorite teachers and friends.
What are your plans after graduation?
After graduation, I’m not sure about the school I want to go to yet, but I do know I want to be an english major and maybe even continue music and choir during then, and I hope to get a doctorate or something. I’m not too sure right now, but I really like English and have been moderately successful in it and I also really love it.
What is your biggest inspiration?
My biggest inspiration is, Mr. Carroll, he would be my biggest inspiration, because he showed me that it doesn’t matter what people say about what you love and want to do, if you’re good at something then you’re going to receive respect in the end and you’re going to be satisfied with choosing what your heart wants.
