2019 has been the year of comebacks. This year’s fashion trends include scrunchies, jean jackets, off-the-shoulder shirts and dresses, vans, hoop earrings, and most notably, this year’s trends have been dominated by the retro style of the 1980s and the 1990s. Why are these trends all of a sudden coming back? Because the fashion that went around then was bound to come back around now.
More and more people have been liking certain fashion trends not just because they’re cute, but also because they’re helpful. The trends that are just now going in style are high waisted pants, striped clothes, asymmetrical pants, and windbreakers. Windbreakers are good for when it’s windy, because they are warm, yet are still a fashionable alternative to a big jacket. Another example is scrunchies, cute and helpful because they let you keep your hair up and don’t make creases in your hair, a reason why many people adore them so much.
When asked what her favorite trend was and why sophomore Madison Metzger answered: “scrunchies because they are stylish and let me put my hair up.”
Even though most trends we see are temporary, some of today’s popular trends have been coming into style since 2016. Just walking down the school hallway you can see most people still wearing some of the same trends.
Some of these trends interest guys too! The awesome thing about fashion trends like these is that you can wear these items and still adjust them your personal style and spice up any outfit according to your likes and dislikes.
Senior Julian Lott said, “My favorite trend this year is cool socks because they are a fun way to express yourself that is not really conventional.”
“[My favorite trend is] bracelets, because they are fun and cute,” sophomore Miguel Patimo said.
When it comes to predicting how long these trends will remain in style, it is safe to say that they aren’t going away anytime soon. Most of this year’s trends are functional and not too crazy, so they will probably continue to stay in style for a long time.
This is especially true for Junior E’Myah Jones, who credits Vans as her favorite trend for this year, “because they are simple and can go with anything.”
