Have you ever wondered what goes on behind the scenes of the Fightin’ Roo Band? It takes a lot of planning and resources to make sure they can be at every varsity football game. Friday night lights usually goes a little different to Fightin’ Roo Band members. They start at WHS, where they have time to rehearse and eat before loading the buses to travel wherever the game may be.
When the band arrives at the game, they quickly unload their instruments and take their place in the stands. The band spends most of their time in the stands playing the tunes we all know and love.
When they’re not in the stands, they’re on the field playing the 2022-2023 marching show Alchemy. The FIGHTIN ROO BAND recently competed at district competition , where they scored a 1 unanimously and advanced to division.
We spoke to assistant band director Justin Good to get the inside scoop. After realizing his passion for music in high school, he went on to obtain a baccalaureate and graduate degree in music.
“I try to be as encouraging, structured and detail oriented as possible” he responded when asked how he would describe the atmosphere in his class.
When asked what he’d be doing if not directing a band he replied “I’d probably be a chef”.
WHS features extremely qualified musical staff who all serve as role models and inspiration for developing musicians.
