The Lady Roo basketball program, a team that shines on the court and off, finished an unforgettable season which bonded our student body and uplifted the #roopride spirit in Weatherford. With a final record of 28-6, our girls are Bi-District Champions!
Practicing since last fall, every day after school from 3 pm until 6 pm, and Saturdays from 9 am to 11:30 am, their hard work demonstrates great technique on the court and a true sisterhood underscoring the bond between these amazing girls.
”What I love most about my team is how close we are on and off the court, I couldn’t ask for a better group of girls to call family,” junior Grace Ferguson (#35) said.
These girls have traveled all over the district, never failing to impress the “Roo” name each game. However, February 15th “completely exceeded…expectations for the season” senior, Maddie Dorris (#54) explained, “Being a senior and this being my last year as a Lady Roo, I put a lot of pressure on the season because I wanted to leave a legacy.”
The victories never could have occurred without the presence of insurmountable teamwork.
“I just can’t thank my entire team for helping give this to me,” Dorris said. “I love all of them and I know that without each and everyone of them we wouldn’t have the success we had this season.”
With the season’s conclusion comes a sense of deep pride and accomplishment. Although not the victors of state, the Lady Roo basketball team remains victors of #roopride and solidarity.
“We left our legacy,” Dorris said.
