With only four days left until Valentine’s Day one of Weatherford’s power couples, the Tharps, prepare to celebrate the holiday that once brought them together at a Blue Belle dance competition for their daughter, Abby, in McKinney. Despite their busy lives, they still remain intent on finding time to go to Sundance Square for a date night.
What began in Admin. C as a conversation over copies, blossomed into a relationship that fails to appear as anything but refined, timeless, and happy.
“Our first [official] date was on February 17th, a few days after Valentine’s…Coach Tharp took me to Reata in Fort Worth for dinner, and we had planned on a movie, but we loved talking so much that we just went to the Flying Saucer and talked for hours instead. That night began our love for the downtown Fort Worth area, which we frequent often for dates even now,” Mrs. Tharp said.
Since their Fort Worth traditions enabled them to explore the city while having alone time, Coach Tharp further established the custom by proposing.
“We just knew [when to get married]. We just knew that when we met each other and started talking that the chemistry (how punny!) was right, and we just knew [we were going to end up together],” Coach Tharp said.
As the two remember their time together during February, they recalled their favorite things about each other.
“My favorite thing about Mrs. Tharp is everything that she is. I can’t say there is just one particular quality about her; it’s just all greatness,” Coach Tharp said.
Their established dynamic allows them to savor each day together as they share their lives, not only around February 14th, but during all times of the year.
“My favorite things about Coach Tharp are that we can talk about anything, from football to books, and he is someone that students, friends, family, everyone can always count on. Every day, even the most ordinary ones, is fun when we’re together,” Mrs. Tharp said. “He is my best friend.”
