This fall semester our Weatherford tennis team secured a spot in the 2025 playoffs.
Since August first, they have played many winning games in the Texas summer heat.
“The hardest part of this season was dealing with the heat! It sounds funny, but when you’re outside on hot pavement for hours the heat will get to you,” Lydia Nader, Varsity player said. Upon finding out they were qualified for playoffs, the coaches began having students practice certain drills and techniques to be prepared for their opponent.
“We mainly focused on a few different doubles strategies that we were going to use specific to our opponent,” said head coach Wesley Kidd.
Even though they had a very good run this season there were a few losses, but that didn’t stop these students from playing to their full potential.
“We try and find something we did well and something we need to work on to continue improvement,” Coach Kidd said. Even though the team knew they were going to playoffs they didn’t let that predict the outcomes of their tournaments. They tried daily to improve their technique and skills for a chance to move up in the playoffs.
“Knowing that our team made the playoffs, honestly, helped me to relax a little more during the last few tournaments. I knew our spot was guaranteed, however, I still wanted to continue playing my best in hopes our team was able to move up spots in playoffs,” explained Nader.
Even though the outcome of the final tournament wasn’t what they were expecting, they still used the experience as a way to learn and grow for future games.
“Losing a match is a defeating feeling, but you can’t let it get you down for the next match. You have to think of every match as a new start, learning from your mistakes and coming in with confidence,” said Lydia Nader.
