This 2025-2026 school year the Weatherford Administration started and will complete construction on a new track at the Weatherford Ninth Grade Center stadium due to complications with the old track.
“The new track will not be completed until after football season. It will take a few weeks in December to finish,” Aubrey Sims, head athletics director, said.
Not wanting to disrupt the sports teams that need the football field to participate in events and sports games is the main priority of the administration. “Without moving football games, we have no choice but to delay the completion,” Sims said.
Football season just recently kicked off for the 2025-2026 school year and while the team doesn’t mainly practice on the stadium field, it is obviously used for the Thursday and Friday night home games.
Because of mistakes done during the previous build of the track, it was a long overdue necessity to get a new one put in.
“The track wasn’t a full 400, lane 8 was 6″ too narrow, and we had to have two finish lines” Joseph Turner head boys track coach said. This makes it harder to keep up with times and distances, negatively affecting track practices.
Having the new track built is advantageous and makes for a better experience for the students. This will be beneficial to the safety and efficiency of our students and coaches. Having the proper size and length track will help the students learn proper and correct techniques throughout their early practices.
Since the track is not open to the public it does not affect citizens that are not a part of the school system.
