The WHS boys basketball team has continued to amaze our community as they have defied all expectations and standards set for them this past year! They have successfully completed the season with a final record of 14-16 according to Head Coach Charles Tatum. We could not be any more proud of how the boys have positively impacted the legacy of the Weatherford High school basketball program!

This past Tuesday night, the boys traveled to Abilene High school to play against the Abilene Eagles for their first Playoff game in eight years.

“It was a new experience,” senior Kenny Cantrell said. “I’m excited because it feels like all of our hard work is paying off.”

The Roos played exceptionally well and gave the visiting crowd an intense show but unfortunately still ended up only 10 points short.

“It’s really bittersweet because we tried really hard,” junior Ty Huang said, “but I’m glad we were able to make Playoffs for the first time in eight years.”

The Roos have played many games here at WHS and have also traveled to numerous schools across the district. Despite the total amount of games they’ve played, the basketball boys have never failed to leave the parents and students content with the results; win or lose, the boys consistently endeavored 110% and practiced persistently, explaining the fans’ continual respect and support throughout the season!

“I really enjoyed getting to experience a successful season with all of my teammates who struggled with me last year,” Huang added.

Many of the teammates plan to continue practicing in order improve for next year’s season while 5 seniors have ambivalently concluded their high school basketball career.

“Our goals, as seniors, have always been to turn this program around, make an impact, and connect with our fellow teammates. Going from two wins last year to a Playoff run this year, I feel like we’ve definitely accomplished those goals,” senior Kenny Cantrell said.

The boys’ motivation for success and their genuine passion for the sport is what defined the Weatherford High School Boys Basketball program this year!
