Throughout various nights in October, expect to see WHS theatre students working at Cowboy Express Car Wash- “the scariest car wash in Texas.”
The idea of a haunted car wash originated from Cowboy Express Car Wash, and last year, students in the theatre program were asked to fill in for some roles. This would turn out to be a success for both the students and the theatre program, and they will continue to participate this year.
“You definitely will be scared,” says Layne Rokus, a theatre student who worked at the car wash last year. He describes the experience as being “like a haunted house, but in a car wash.” Cars are not actually washed during this time, but people come for the thrilling experience. “I made a girl cry. I still feel bad about that.”
Another theatre student, Emma Walker, describes the experience as “scary, fun, and a little bit crazy… It’s a lot of fun because you get to dress up, stand along the road, wave people in, and then you scare [them].”
Cowboy Express Car Wash is located at 907 S Main St in Weatherford. Theatre students will be working from 7PM-9PM on the 18th, 25th, and 30th of October, but the performance will still be available on the 17th, 24th, and 31st.
Money from the haunted car wash experience will go to the program’s various shows and competitions throughout the year. Their newest show is Hadestown, and it is available from the 11th through the 13th of December. Attending these shows is another great way to support the theatre program.
