Key Club’s 21st Century Debut

In October, Weatherford High School was officially chartered and is now recognized as a member of Key Club International. This student-led organization encourages leadership through the responsibility of impacting others and works to unite the community under one common goal; to serve. Personally, watching the ambition of our President, Carter Pruitt, as he worked to get the club established at our school, was inspiring. Carter singlehandedly, keeping his service-oriented heart in mind, put forth months of hard work to achieve his goal and in turn, allowed others to reap the benefits. This persistence that Carter demonstrates shows just how the future graduates of our school will fully devote themselves wholeheartedly to selflessly serve others, a trait that will remain with them throughout the entirety of their lives, contributing to the betterment of our society on a global scale. We also would be unable to talk about Key Club without acknowledging our wonderful advisors, Ms. Taryn Seidler and Mrs. Morgan Wright.

When I asked Ms. Seidler what her motivation was for becoming a key club advisor she stated this:

“In the spring, Carter Pruitt came to me with the idea to start a service organization. He was so passionate about it that I went to Dr. T. Little did I know, Coach Wright already reached out to him about this, and when she found out about my interest in a student-led service organization, she asked me to co-sponsor! Since then, I have seen so many excited, passionate students who are eager to help others in our community. I feel so blessed to be involved!”

And of course, the basis of our foundation lies solely on the membership and the excitement of those involved. We would be a lifeless shell of an organization without the help and sponsorship of the Kiwanis International family and the passion of the students involved.

Personally, I am so excited about what the future holds for our charter and the change it will bring to the community. When I asked Mrs. Wright what she expected for the future of this organization she said:

“Key Club is an international organization that brings together students from all over the world to create change and make a positive difference for communities in need. WHS already has so many kids who are out in the community volunteering and who have amazing ideas to help improve our school, our town, and our county. I hope we are able to combine the talent and spirit of our incredible students to complete some major projects, not just here at home, but for the world!

Margaret Mead said, “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.” I see the desire in our students to improve the world around them, and I think with our energy combined, we’re going to be able to make a true impact.”
