Q: How was your first day as the WHS principal?
A: I was excited, but knew it was going to be hectic getting ready for students. Thankfully, Mrs. Dowd left WHS in very good shape. The first day of school itself was great. I get more excited for the first day of school now than I ever did as a student, if you add being at a new place to that excitement it was definitely hard to sleep the night before.
Q: What is something you hope to teach the students of WHS?
I think it is important to understand that everyone will learn something different from what we do here as a staff. We can teach everyone the same lesson, but what students take from that is their own. Hopefully what they take from everything we do here is that we care and we are here solely for our students.
Q: What has been your favorite part of Weatherford ISD so far?
A: All the Kangaroo stuff! In all seriousness, it has been the people. Without a doubt this is a school and community full of great people.
Q: On the announcements you state, “Have a good day-or not, the choice is yours.” Could you elaborate on what that means to you?
A: We don’t just have a good day we have a great day. What that means is you own your own happiness in this world and you get the choice every day to make it a great day or to make it a bad one, heck you even have the option of giving control over your happiness to others and letting them decide if you have a great day. Really it’s just a reminder that you have power in your own life to determine what kind of day/life it will be.
Q: What did you earn your EdD in?
A: I have a Bachelor of Science from Texas Tech. Then went to the University of Texas for graduate school, before moving and transferring to finish my MEd in Educational Leadership from Tarleton State. From there I went on to TCU to get an MBA in Management and an EdD in Educational Leadership.
Q: What does Roo Pride mean to you as a leader of Weatherford High School?
A: It represents being our best in all that we do. I love the fact that it isn’t about just band, Belles, volleyball, or any one group. It is all inclusive, it is all of us, it is a MOB thing. I have been at places where there was pride within the Ag department, and pride within individual athletic teams, but there was no overall sense of pride in the whole group. I’m excited about #RooPride because that represents us all.
