Out of thousands of athletes in the state of Texas, one a week is honored with the title of Channel 8: Dale Hansen’s Scholar Athlete of the Week. This past week our very own Blue Belle Captain, Sophie Pasternak, was honored with this title.

Sophie’s passion for dancing started at a very young age. Her career as a dancer began when she was three at her mom’s dance studio, and ever since then dance emerged as a huge part of her life.

“It allows me to share my love for dance with others,” Sophie said. “Dance has allowed me to find the leader that I am, taught me to always keep pushing to improve my skills, and the importance of building a strong team.”

It is evident dance pushes Sophie to be the best she can be as this award possesses extensive requirements. From a fair amount of community service, being successful in sports, and being in the top 20% of one’s class, this award is reserved for the best of the best.

“I am a volunteer at the Manna Storehouse where I sort donated clothes, toys, and household items for families in need in Weatherford,” Sophie said. “Community service is a priority in my life, as I feel I should use the gifts God gave me to serve others.”

As she serves her community Sophie exhibits superb time management skills as she simultaneously leads through the role of the Blue Belle Captain.

“The most important thing in balancing my academics and Blue Belles is time management,” Sophie said. “Staying organized and avoiding procrastination is also very important. When I’m stressed I take a step back and have faith that it will all work out.”

Sophie does an amazing job of this, as you can always find her with a smile. This smile and grace is truly what makes Sophie so deserving of this award.

“I was both shocked and excited. I couldn’t help but want to immediately thank my director, Mrs. Buckner, and all the Blue Belles for always following my lead as their captain and being the best support group.”
