Roo Tennis Ends Fall Season

Roo Tennis Ends Fall Season

On October 16th, the tennis team closed their fall season, playing their last match at area play-offs against Southlake. Since early August, the team has been competing against 5A schools around the area to make their way to both district and area play-offs.

For the past 2 months, the team has been working hard and practicing every day for several hours. Although they did not qualify for the regional competition, they managed to place as one of the top six teams of the district.

“These guys are tennis people,” Coach McClarty said.  “They’re good.”

The traveling team consists of the top 8 players for each gender, rounding up a total of 16 players for both JV and Varsity.  For the past years, the tennis team has managed to place itself among the top teams of the region.

“We lost a lot of good players last year,” JV player Sam Snell said. “The coaches make us work hard and I like that.”

Pre-season matches began the week after try-outs, and the first district match was on September 6th.  Since then, the team has been playing triumphantly. Spring season will begin after Christmas break, but in the meantime these athletes are preparing for the oncoming season.

“[Coach McClarty and Coach Nunn] are very helpful and enthusiastic,” sophomore player Lane Guest said.  “As for the team, we’re really close, we play good together, and I can’t wait for next season.”
