There are many different ways to deal with grief. Often people may think they just don’t need to confront their grief and it will just fade away. This is false. Confronting the grief you feel can be hard and challenging but at the end of the day that’s something you can’t just bottle up. You have to learn how to cope and use strategies to prevent it from worsening.Grief can also cause physical symptoms like weight loss or weight gain, aches and pains, insomnia, and fatigue.
During this time of grief you want to surround yourself with caring and positive people that will uplift you and not bring you down at such a vulnerable time in your life. Be patient. Grief can’t just go away no matter how bad you want it to. It can take weeks, months and even years for grief to go away depending on how close you were to the person or your situation. You have to accept and realize that your life has changed. Grief can change how you perform your everyday tasks in your life.You will have low motivation which will cause you to lose interest in what you use to find fun or things you would do in your free time.
There are 5 stages of grief; denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance. There is no correct way to deal with grief, everyone handles it in a different way. Some people won’t even cry when they lose a loved one but that does not mean it isn’t affecting them; they just keep the grief on inside.
When dealing with someone who is experiencing grief you shouldn’t pressure them to open up but you should comfort them and let them open up to you on their time when they are ready to talk about what they are going through.
