AG Program Overcomes Hardship

This past week the Ag building flooded due to a building malfunction.

“What happened is that the heater in the ceiling overheated and was located right next to the sprinkler system. Since the sprinkler system is heat sensitive it went off, and ran for who knows how long,” one of the Ag advisors, Mrs. Jennings said.

Unfortunately, the sprinklers ran long enough that by the time maintenance found out, the building was two feet deep in water as it rushed and bubbled out from underneath the doors.

“The damage was fairly extensive, however; we were able to recover a majority of our materials,” Jennings said.

The Agricultural Program relies on multiple hands-on materials, especially for their shop and veterinary classes. Thankfully, most of those materials were put away correctly and safely so, no harm was done to them; although, most of the co-curricular material for the FFA Organization was lost due to the water damage.

“We actually had an FFA meeting the same week, along with the Roo Expo, and had to completely start from scratch and make new posters, and such,” senior, Cora Cocke and President of the Weatherford FFA chapter, said.

In addition to the meeting, much of the supplies lost related to the majority of the competition study materials as they were damaged as well, thus leaving Ag advisors and team members to restart the recreating process of the material in the books.

“The flood made the past couple of weeks a little hectic but we managed to make things happen,” Cocke said.

The Ag program and Weatherford FFA Chapter have taken a positive outlook on the flood as a chance to start over for the new year and clean out their building.

“I’m ready for a vacation now, but I’m grateful to have students and FFA members who are willing to pull together to get us back up on our feet,”Jennings said.
