The Resurgence of the Homecoming Dance

This year, students witnessed the resurgence of the homecoming dance at the Ninth Grade Activity Center under the leadership of the JV cheerleading sponsor, Ms. Briggs.

Although the majority of students knew about the resurgence of the dance, the homecoming court felt even more thrilled at the prospect of becoming involved in another aspect of homecoming festivities.

“I’m super excited and think we’re going to have so much fun,” senior, Kelsey Vier said.

As with every homecoming situation, a school spirit rises in regards to the intensity of the football game and the homecoming court representatives. Although there were many students submitted for homecoming court, only a selected number walked down the 50-yard line under the Friday Night Lights.

“I’m really honored my class chose me, and I’m really happy that I can have this experience, and hopefully I can represent my class,” senior, Paige Hudson said.

As students prepared for the game, there was another thing on the students’ minds. About 400 students showed up at the dance. The DJ played music until 1 a.m. while Shep’s food truck also supplied an abundance of hamburgers and hotdogs.

“The dance was amazing, and pretty much nobody expected it to be as big as it was this year. We really didn’t know about it until the end, but even still people came last minute,” junior, Sara Lock said.

Whether or not the school will have a dance next year remains unknown.

“The school had a dance for the first time in years, but the teachers kind of stopped us from having too much fun,” sophomore, Julie Jacks said.

However, the regulations of adult interference still facilitated a fun and lively atmosphere.

“The best part of the dance was the music. Mainly because the DJ played my favorite song which was “Cotton Eyed Joe,” Julie Jacks said.
