Black Friday Behind The Scenes

From the Associate’s Perspective
Black+Friday+Behind+The+Scenes

Black Friday is known as one of the craziest days of the holiday season, and has a reputation of causing conflicts between consumers. But what about the sales associates? What do they endure throughout the day when everyone shops dramatically and obnoxiously only hours after giving thanks.

“It’s crazy. People are everywhere and they want the absolute best sale, but in all honesty it’s not as crazy as people make it up to be,” senior Jessica White said. “The only chaotic aspect about Black Friday, at David’s Western Wear, was that we struggled to get people checked out quickly.”

Black Friday is a quick paced day, and sales associates feel the rush throughout eight hour shifts, while the rest of us have the option of leaving the bustle whenever we please.
“I wasn’t overwhelmed but I was definitely surprised,”senior Blaise White, sales associate at Target said. “I expected it to be way more chaotic, and there would be more fights.”
We all expect massive fights over the latest flat screen smart TV, purse, or child’s toy on Black Friday, but according to these sales associates that doesn’t seem to happen.

“Everyone was calm for the most part. Only a couple of people really got frustrated that the sales didn’t conform to them, but they were the ones who were going hard core,” Jessica said.

Maybe there aren’t any fights, or lines circling the building, but are sales associates ready to endure the rush again next year or are they planning to opt out?

“I’m so ready for next year,” Blaise said.
