The Junior World Affairs committee will be hosting speakers Dina Malki  and Hazem Yassin as they speak about the Middle East and Islamic Studies on Friday, October 24. The speakers will be presenting in Durant Audiorium during Megalunch, and attending students should head to Durant at the beginning of A block.

Many students have not been exposed to the issues currently surrounding U.S. relations with the Middle East, and a number of students believe it is important to finally introduce these topics at WHS.

“It needs to be heard so students can expand their minds on stuff like this,” junior Carter Gass said.

Hazem Yassin is a senior software Engineer working for Southwest Airlines. Hazem has an MBA and is currently working on his Software Engineering Masters at UTA.

Dina Malki is a public speaker, writer, and teacher in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. She writes for the Examiner, and covers Islam and Muslims in Dallas, as well as for the State of Formation. She teaches courses about Islam and Western-Muslim relations with TCU’s Extended Education program.

All students and faculty members are invited to attend this event and continue to build their knowledge of the Middle East, and issues faced by the inhabitants.
